Joseph Bashir,
whose home was rendered uninhabitable by the flood

Peshawar:

The flood not only destroyed houses but separated families as well. Joseph Bashir, whom I met on my last visit, was living with his three brothers and their families in one big house by the Kabul River, Nowshera . The building was submerged for about a month and now cannot be used for residential purposes. The estimated cost for the rebuilding of their house is around £4,500. Joseph said, "Prior to the flood we were living as a joint family, but now my brothers and their families have dispersed to different areas of the city, as the house is no longer safe to live in."
