Enduring months of police harassment, Uzbek authorities attempted to arrest believer Guljahon Kuzebayeva on 24 February in her home in Karshi, in Uzbekistan’s Kashkadarya province, but were unable find her.
Ms Kuzebayeva’s home was raided by police in July last year, as they hoped to find Christian books they could use to indict her. Unable to find anything illegal, authorities took her brother, his wife and their 19-year-old son to the police station, whereupon “they were made to sign statements that Kuzebayeva illegally shared her Christian beliefs with them,” according to local Christians.
On 12 February this year, Ms Kuzebayeva was summoned to appear before the local Passport Regime Department. Instead of attending the summons, Gulzhahon Kuzebayeva went into hiding.
